Alara Fine Jewelry Sales & Customer Service | $18 - $23/hour DOE and Sales History

The primary responsibility of our open position is in fine jewelry sales and customer service.  Without question, a desire to interface with people is an absolute must. Our work is varied, as we are a small business. We try to match you up with additional responsibilities and tasks that dovetail with your talents or interests, once you show us what you're made of. Our success depends upon the happiness of each team member!

For those who thrive in results-based compensation scenarios, there is an optionally-available clienteling opportunity that can readily result in $12K - $20K above and beyond hourly compensation.

We all stay busy, because we all love our work and are fully engaged in it. We're looking to hire someone permanently who can (at their option) take on a leadership role in the future -- so please, no short term flings.

Our gallery features the work of over seventy designers from all over the world, with a strong emphasis on artisanal/small production lines. Your ability to learn, commit to memory, and enthusiastically share with customers the “stories” of these designers is of great importance.

You’ve got to…

  • Have a genuine interest in the finer points of precious jewels; and an enthusiasm to share your knowledge. Through that sharing, you have established a proven fine jewelry sales record. You just need a new, cool place to apply those skills.
  • Make a friendly first impression--smiling, welcoming, and connecting with customers authentically.
  • Have a natural interest in being helpful and kind.
  • Bring your best to everything you do and achieve your goals.
  • Be flexible, up for anything, and ready to have fun along the way.
  • Look under rocks, be curious, ask questions and think boldly.
  • Make the most of every moment and be energized by multi-tasking.
  • Be technologically savvy, computer literate, and at ease with learning internal systems, while also knowing that devices and technology don’t replace the human touch.
  • Be strong in written (email, text, detailed note-taking) and verbal communication
  • Build productive relationships with everyone on the team and always respect each other.
  • Be able to sell through education, caring, authenticity, and a sense of service – NOT "sales techniques."
  • Have the ability to learn on the job about our designers, gems, and jewelry in general.
  • Have an appreciation for artistic innovation and beauty.
  • Be a dependable, motivated, and creative self-starter.
  • Have a well-developed sense of humor (requirement for working with the general public).
  • Be cool about working one full weekend a month, plus a few single weekend days a month, as well.
  • Make yourself available to work evenings until 8:30pm for special events (average of once per month or less).

And here’s the “great to haves” that will play into your hourly wage offer:

  • Gemological training or other jewelry industry-specific education
  • Macro photography experience
  • Interest in contributing to our social media presence
  • Merchandising experience
  • Talent for descriptive writing or keen-eyed editing
  • Interest in attending networking events
  • Accurate data input abilities
  • Event execution
  • Enjoy entertaining in an event setting
  • Experience with website upkeep/updating
  • Familiarity and experience with clienteling
  • CRM management experience
  • Both technical writing and creative writing skills
  • Organizational capabilities
This full-time associate position generally entails five workdays a week, which typically means a scheduled workweek of 45 to 47 hours (with any time over 40 hours paid at 1.5x). Option to switch to four 10-hour days after proven results. Our full-time team members rotate weekends; we cooperate with each other to make sure we all get to enjoy specific weekends and vacations that are important to us.

Pay is hourly plus commission opportunities. Hourly wage is dependent upon the skills, experience, and sales record you bring to the table. We are delighted to train in many areas if you possess the attitude and intellectual curiosity to excel.

Our benefits include: accrued PTO, paid holidays, medical insurance or stipend, 401K with match up to 4%, employer-paid life and disability insurance, profit-sharing (at roughly 7% of wages the past few years), half-paid Ridge membership, educational opportunities, fun field trips, and employee discount.

Continue to show us your stuff, and there's room to grow in compensation.
