Anit Dodhia grew up in a culturally-rich Indian community in Mombasa, on the Kenyan coast. As a child, he spent time discovering and exploring his love for gems at his family’s jewelry gallery. Kaali Designs is the result of this decades-long passion, and named in the honor of a Hindu warrior-goddess.
Now based in San Diego and a GIA Graduate Gemologist, Anit designs artworks that are the perfect fusion of art and family tradition, and an expression of the Indian Ocean. From its calm, reflective waters to its tempestuous, dark surges, its compelling forces of strength, beauty, and untapped potential are at the root of Anit's creativity.
Kaali Designs is named in honor of the Hindu Goddess Kali, a fierce and powerful warrior who is a manifestation of the Divine Mother. The Goddess Kali represents nature, seduction and destruction of evil, bringing forth enlightenment and liberation. The Kaali Collection embodies the characteristics of Kali with fiery diamonds, organic textures and assertive styles.
When Chantell and Babs met Anit, half-deaf Babs couldn’t quite understand his first name. He gave her a wonderful mnemonic that Babs share with new staff ever since: “He’s a neat man.” Get it? Anit = “a neat”
