Fordite, sometimes called Detroit agate, is unlike most gemstones you’ll find in a jewelry collection. It isn’t mined from the earth. Instead, it’s created from decades of layered automotive paint that built up on factory floors, hardened over time, and was later cut and polished to reveal unexpected ribbons of color. Because each piece comes from a unique section of that history, no two Fordite slices are ever exactly alike.

This freeform pendant showcases sweeping layers of crimson, ivory, charcoal, and silver, creating the look of a tiny abstract landscape frozen in motion. As a collaborative piece, we supplied the Fordite “stone” for designer Amáli to bring to life in her signature style. She paired the one-of-a-kind material with oxidized sterling silver, allowing the unique colors and patterns to take center stage, while yellow gold prongs add a warm contrast. Three grey diamond rondelles along the adjustable double chain bring in a subtle sparkle that complements the pendant without distracting from the Fordite’s organic movement.
